Orte is a municipality in the Italian province of Viterbo. It had 8237 in 2014. Orte is situated in the
Tiber valley on a high tuff cliff. It has an area of 70.2 km². It lies about 132 meters below sea level.
The Etruscans inhabited the area from the 6th century BC. Orte was later occupied in succession by
the Ostrogoths, the Byzantines and the Lombards.
